Desert Strike (and Jungle Strike etc etc) are shoot 'em ups for sure, but a very different kind since they have all that freedom of movement in an early 3D space. But yeah "Helicopter" is a much smaller segment of the STG population even though the majority of them completely rule.
Never played that but I loved Desert Strike which I'm guessing was the next generation.
